Other Projects - Education in Central Africa
War, genocide, poverty and displacement of families caused thousands of children in the Great Lakes Region to abandon school. Crushing poverty sent children to the streets to steal and to beg. Even children who desperately desired to attend school could not afford to do. Orphans and families whose livelihood had been destroyed had no money for tuition fees and school supplies.
In addition to its ongoing work sending Pygmy children to school in Burundi, FAMA has partnered with other organizations to ensure an education for other disenfranchised children in the Great Lakes Region. FAMA rebuilt a school in Nyangezi, Congo, furnished school supplies and teaching materials for an elementary school in Kanombe Rwanda, provided computers for a youth computer training center in Kanombe Rwanda, and provided ongoing assistance to refugee students and a refugee school in Bujumbura, Burundi.
